Preschool Programs
The preschool program serves children aged 3-5 years, and occasionally 2½ year-olds who are developmentally ready to participate in preschool activities. Children may attend 2 days, 3 days, or 5 days a week, with an additional extended day option on Friday (this option is on hold for the 2021-22 school year).
There are two basic teaching teams, one for MWF and one for TTTH. Both classes use the same space. In most years, each class has a mixed-age group; we believe that children of all ages and developmental levels learn well when they are placed with younger and older classmates. While each class bases its curriculum on the interests of the children in that class, there is often overlap and cross-fertilization of ideas. The teaching teams for the two classes meet regularly to coordinate classroom set-up and curriculum directions.
We are a Reggio-inspired early childhood program. For more on our approach, please view our Curriculum and Philosophical Statement pages.
Tuesday/Thursday Class Our 2-day per week class meets for 3.5 hours each day. This program often serves children taking their first foray into the preschool environment. Children will have the opportunity to independently explore relationships and play with new friends and teachers while learning a set of introductory school routines. Process-focused art, creative play with loose parts and natural materials, and ample time to explore the outdoors are at the heart of this program. Classes will enjoy a snack and lunch from home, eating with friends and teachers. Offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00-12:30 pm. Class size ranges from 10-12 students with 2 teachers.
Monday/Wednesday/Friday Class Our 3-day per week class meets for up to 6 hours each day. With longer days, this program often serves children preparing to take on kindergarten the following year. Classes delve into a wider range and greater depth of investigations, play and school routines. Process-focused art, creative play with loose parts and natural materials, and ample time to explore the outdoors provide a foundation for extended learning and creativity in this program. Classes will enjoy a snack, and lunch from home, eating with friends and teachers, recharge with a short period of rest, then regroup for an afternoon of play and learning. Enrichment can include but is not limited to yoga, and foreign language. Offered Mondays & Wednesdays from 9:00-3:00 pm. Friday mornings 9:00-12:30 pm. Class size ranges from 10-14 students with 2 teachers.
